Decize is the main centre of activity in the southern Nivernais and one of the southern gateways to Burgundy.
Sandwiched between two arms of the Loire and surrounded by ramparts, the town centre of Decize is built on a rocky outcrop. Located at the confluence of rivers, you will have to cross no less than 5 bridges to get from one end of the town to the other: the Nivernais Canal, the Aron River, the Vieille Loire, the Loire and the Canal Latéral à la Loire. This geographical feature makes it a strategic point for all communication routes. It is one of the most beautiful stops in central France!
This unique situation has encouraged the development of river transport of goods and then pleasure boating. Its main ambassador is the Port de la Jonction with its 80 moorings.
Its wealth of fish stocks has led to the town being dubbed "An angler's paradise", with rivers teeming with good surprises of all sizes: pike-perch, chub, perch, pike, catfish, etc.
You want to visit the town but you don't know where to start, don't panic, a historical circuit and several "nature" circuits allow you, at your own pace, to discover the multiple facets of this "island"!
You want to know even more! Guided tours are organised in July and August for individuals and all year round for groups.
