L'échauguette

In the 16th century, the fortifications of Decize were insufficient. In 1583, the town was pillaged by a band of Italian mercenaries, and the aldermen decided to build two triangular fortifications or ravelins to prevent similar disasters from happening again.
Only the western ravelin was built between 1593 and 1605. An elegant watchtower crowns the corner of this structure.
Accessible all year round, it is part of the town's historical circuit and guided tours are organised in season.
