This impluvium washhouse was built in 1872
Invited as a painter, and author of abstract mural compositions, Ernst Caramelle wishes to enhance the functional specificity of the place. For him, the fragility of the supports and the techniques used are always underlined. The economy of means used gives his work a radicalism that is reinforced by an interest in ephemeral forms of spectacle and elusiveness.
The work ''Rideau de pluie'' was inaugurated in 1999.
Micro-pipes were installed on the roof all around the building. When you enter the wash house, a curtain of rainwater appears at the flick of a switch, flowing down the other slopes of the roof to the pool. This screen remains in place while the mechanical programming takes place. This work, under the appearance of an immaterial and transparent plane, occupies a privileged place in the creative work of Ernst Caramelle, entering in resonance with the whole of his pictorial work.
