Day 1

A tour to follow at your own pace

You'll enjoy strolling along the flowery quayside of this charming town of Mâcon with its colourful façades, and café and restaurant seating areas along the banks of the Saône.

You can visit the town by following the Tracé de la Plume (Quill Trail). A nod to French poet Alphonse de Lamartine, who is a native of the town! This trail is marked out with arrows on the ground, to see 28 sights across the town. The highlights:

  • the atypical Maison de Bois with saucy sculptures,
  • the Lamartine esplanade alongside the Saône,
  • the old Saint-Vincent,
  • the historic Saint-Laurent bridge, to serve as the backdrop for your selfies!

Venture inside the Musée des Ursulines. Discover the Maison de Bois devoted to Lamartine to learn about this local poet and politician who was known to fiercely defend his country!
