The "Chemins du Roman" trails in Saône et Loire
This autumn, treat yourselves to a spiritual experience by following the trails of the Romanesque churches in the Brionnais. The priory church of Anzy-le-Duc, the church of Châteauneuf-en-Brionnais, the basilica of Paray-le-Monial all take on an almost mystical appearance when the low-angled autumn light streams through the windows.
Other Romanesque treasures
Let's begin with Vézelay Abbey. You'll be taken aback by the wonderful, luxuriant world hidden behind each sculpted decoration. Then onto the priory church of La Charité-sur-Loire: 122 m long and 72 m high. In other words, one of the biggest churches in France, and a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. They are both listed as World Heritage Sites by Unesco.
