Located in the Natura 2000 zone, this 22-hectare pond is home to a very lively life with the presence of many animals, aquatic insects, green frogs, migratory birds and a remarkable plant landscape opening onto the Morvan mountains.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the hamlet of Chèvres had a blast furnace for the production of cast iron. It was only used for two or three months a year, as there was not enough water in the pond all year round. The building with the numerous chimneys served as accommodation for the factory workers. The number of chimneys
indicates how many apartments there were in the time of the blast furnace. During the interwar period, the leisure activity
leisure activities developed. The large expanses of grass behind the current farm, on the left opposite the pond, were home to a golf course, frequented by the curists of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.
