Sometimes called "the mountain", it offers an unobstructed view of the Nivernais valley and the Morvan mountains. Allowing an effective surveillance of the surroundings, the hillock of Montenoison has always exerted a great attraction on men, who installed at its top a Gallic village, then a Roman fortified camp. According to the legend, the mound would have been fortified by an enclosure of 5 towers which contained a temple dedicated to Caesar. In the Middle Ages, a feudal city and a castle belonging to the Counts of Nevers were built, as well as a hospital. Free visit
