Musée du Costume
The Museum of Costume, located in the former Hôtel de Condé in Avallon at 6 rue Belgrand, is presenting a new exhibition for 2023: "Velvet and fashion".
Velvet came from the East and Italy and was used in French fashions from the 18th to the 20th century: chiselled, miniature and richly embroidered velvet for men's ceremonial clothes from the 18th century to the Restoration, shiny silk velvet for evening dresses from the 19th to the 20th century, woollen velvet for winter clothes, cotton velvet renowned for its resistance for sports and work clothes. In the twelve rooms of the museum decorated with period furniture and paintings, these different aspects of velvet will be represented in all their diversity.
