Grande Traversée du Massif Central by mountain bike

Created in 1995, the route covered 680 km of the most beautiful landscapes in the Massif Central. Today, it covers 1380 km in its entirety (linking the Morvan to the Mediterranean Sea). It crosses the whole of the Massif Central, passing through a number of emblematic sites in France's largest massif (the Morvan lakes, the Loire valleys and the Allier plain, etc.).
Whether you're travelling with friends or family, this is the perfect way to experience your first mountain bike tour.
Along the way you'll discover a rich and varied palette of natural and heritage treasures. The peaceful and enchanting Lac du Crescent, the majestic Château de Chastellux, the Benedictine abbey of La Pierre qui Vire, steeped in spirituality, the lakes of Saint-Agnan, Chamboux and Settons with their own charm, surrounded by bucolic landscapes.
The vast wooded areas of the Forêt au Duc and the Haut Folin massif, and iconic peaks such as Mont Beuvray and Signal du Mont with its lookout tower, offer breathtaking panoramic views of the region. Between Les Queules and La Roche Millay, this route reveals hidden treasures, including Issy-L'Evéque with its listed buildings.
The remains of the Gallo-Roman city of Autun are a reminder of the region's rich past, while the Signal d'Uchon offers a breathtaking view of this land of mystery and splendour.
