From the château, the route leads to the calm meadows of the Saône valley. The Varennes-les-Mâcon site was inhabited very early on; numerous flints dating back to 11,850 BC and the remains of two villages were discovered when the lake was created. Here you can follow in the footsteps of the many peoples who once followed the river along the Via Agrippa.
