Underground treasures. From double-storey cellars to Cistercian vaults, let yourself be surprised by the architectural richness and spirit of the sites, from the best-known to the most secret. Enjoy a Meursault white wine at the end of your visit.
A stroll through the large cellars of Meursault will allow you to discover the "underbelly" of the village: as early as the 11th century, the monks of Cîteaux settled in Meursault where they harvested white mass wine, and where they built cellars and barns. These buildings were constructed in the grounds of today's Château de Cîteaux at the end of the 12th century, with magnificent vaulted cellars that you will have the pleasure of admiring.
The Domaine Delagrange cellars will transport you back to the 15th century: they were already housing the wines of the Duchy of Burgundy at that time, and have the unusual feature of being two storeys high, a rare architectural feature in the Côte-d'Or.
The 15th- and 17th-century Domaine Ropiteau cellars, located in Meursault on the former Hospices de Beaune estate, are among the most prestigious in the region, with 900 barrels being vinified in the cellars.
Finally, the Robert de Grancey Cellar - Meursault Town Hall: a former fortified castle built in 1337, where several scenes from the film "La Grande Vadrouille" with Bourvil and Louis de Funès were filmed (1966), is built on a fine 14th-century cellar. You can also see the birth certificate of the building on one of the foundation stones.
At the end of this guided tour, a tasting of Meursault will delight your taste buds and caress your palate with its subtle and enchanting aromas.
