Guided by textile artist Elisaveta Prokopchuk, try your hand at wool weaving or tufting, a traditional weaving method. In the process, you'll take part in a collective work illustrating the Climats de Bourgogne parcel system, on display at the Musée du Vin de Beaune.
This unique event, held to coincide with the Month of the Climats, is part of a drive to share knowledge, showcase traditional craftsmanship and include the general public in the local cultural landscape. Guided by a textile artist, visitors will be invited to weave a tapestry, which will become a participatory work of art, displayed in the Musée du Vin de Beaune. Each participant will use wool to draw one or more of the parcels that make up the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne.
Tufting is a technique used to create carpets, originally done by hand and later modernised using electric guns. This essential tool works in the same way as a sewing machine needle, inserting an identically cut thread of wool into the primary fabric each time it passes. This gun is used to 'draw' the design of your choice on the canvas, which after finishing will become a rug or tapestry to hang. Tufting is a creative technique that is particularly popular on social networks, and is a great way of introducing people to an art form that is still in its infancy in the region. By organising a tufting activity, you can familiarise them with the basic equipment and techniques. This will be led by Elisaveta Prokopchuk, a textile artist who has been passionate about wool for 10 years. The daughter of a dressmaker, she was more attracted to the meditative aspect of knitting at the age of 21, before taking an interest in the punch needle, weaving and then tufting. Today, Elisaveta continues to perfect these different techniques and to assemble them to form works in collaboration with Romain Hurdequint and his recycled skateboards, inspired by the world of Antiquity.
