"Biodiversity and Winegrowing Heritage Days
Lectures at the Château de Pontus de Tyard for a varied public: researchers, students and the simply curious.
The association Renaissance du Château de PONTUS DE TYARD manages a building that once belonged to this illustrious figure and has been working since 2001 to restore this historic monument (which has been awarded the "Maison des Illustres" label), study it and bring it to life.
Pontus de Tyard, poet of the Pleiades, astronomer and philosopher, undoubtedly left his mark on the 16th century through his humanism and his desire to understand the world. We like to use this as a guideline for our activities.
Our interest in historical and literary heritage also extends to environmental heritage. After planting a conservatory orchard (varieties from the 16th century), a conservatory vineyard was reinstalled in the same spirit. This includes a collection of Chardonnay varieties as well as an ampelographic collection of fifty grape varieties that could have been present on the site in 1542 (vines were mentioned at that time). This is a bit like the missing link between a cabinet of curiosities and a botanical collection: 'Pontus de Tyard's dream vine'. Some grape varieties are still widely planted (pinot...), many are more modest (césar....) and others are 'forbidden' (gouais...). We wondered how a universal mind like Pontus de Tyard's could understand his environment in the 16th century. He was necessarily attentive to the work of his contemporaries, but he was also rooted in what had preceded him and in his territory. These questions naturally extended into the more recent past, and have now come to the forefront of today's issues. Every year, we harvest this plot ourselves and produce a few bottles of a wine known as 'Clairet', which is unique and different every year.
In addition, every June since 2012, our association "Renaissance du château Pontus de Tyard" has been organising wine exchange days in conjunction with the Dijon Science Garden and the UNESCO Chair in Wine Culture and Tradition.
Partnerships have also been established with the Revue des œnologues and the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle.
Over the past 12 years, more than 100 speakers have contributed to the success of these events.
The 13th Biodiversity and Winegrowing Heritage Days: "Wine, vines, what classes...!" are organised by the Renaissance du château Pontus de Tyard de Bissy sur Fley association, the SFS (French Society of Systematics) and the UNESCO Chair of Winegrowing Cultures and Traditions in Dijon.
Wine is recognised as one of the most diverse beverages. It is the fruit of a complex history involving vines, humans, geology, ecosystems, etc. Numerous classifications exist to try and account for and explain this diversity: soil types, grape varieties, winemaking techniques, AOCs, regions, ratings, etc. All these systems for organising vines, wines and processing methods are systematic. Some of these classifications are close to 'classical systematics' (grape varieties, selection patterns, etc.), while others are more exotic. What do these classifications tell us? How were they constructed? How have they evolved? How do they reflect our vision of the living world, of wine and of the social objectives associated with it? The aim of these meetings is to find out more about the systematics of vines and wine in all its component parts, and to understand (and experience) its mysteries and motivations.
A number of short films that won awards at the Oenovidéo festival will be screened.
Wine-tasting workshops will also be organised.
The château and its vineyards will also be open to visitors.
