Pay a visit to Saint-Etienne in Sens which was the very first Gothic cathedral. Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it embodies all the variations of this revolutionary architectural style. By looking at its windows you can trace the development of stained glass windows between the 12th and 19th centuries. A visit to this cathedral, once a refuge for Thomas Becket and the scene of St Louis’ marriage, is certainly a date with history.
