The birthplace of Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, lies on a hill dominated by the vast park created in the 18th century by this native of the region. Surrounded by the remains of the former 14th-century château of the Dukes of Burgundy, now a listed historic monument, the Parc Buffon is part of the town's commitment to respecting the environment. The Musée & Parc Buffon, which has been awarded the "Musée de France" and "Maison des Illustres" labels, is dedicated to this famous naturalist, who was Intendant of the King's Garden for fifty years, as well as to his closest collaborator Daubenton.
