In 1880, Achille Millien, an ethnomusicologist before his time, travelled the Nivernais to meet peasants and record their songs. 140 years later, three singers and lifelong friends took their turn going from door to door, collecting the memories of people here and there, children and elders alike.
The trio love to ask questions and entertain, but above all they love to discover and listen to people. You'll hear them in the recordings gleaned along the way and inserted into their shows, and also in the audience, since audiences of all ages are invited to give their voices to La Maraude! Combining a cappella singing and Human-Beat-Box (mouth percussion derived from the hip-hop movement), La Maraude revisits the French oral tradition in a resolutely modern style.
