A precocious pianist and violinist, she was already composing at the age of five.
Intended for classical music by her parents, she turned very early on to variety music, songs, film music and musicals. For Edith Piaf, Marguerite Monnot wrote the music for about fifty songs, including Milord, Hymne à l'amour and Mon Légionnaire.
Born in 1903, she died in 1961 of peritonitis. A plaque is affixed to her birthplace (rue Marguerite Monnot in Decize).
The house cannot be visited.
