The MNFS is committed to environmental education and the preservation of the great natural balances by offering educational activities for schoolchildren, such as: The Wildlife Trail: Discovery and recognition of signs of the presence of wild animals (deer, wild boar, badger, roe deer, etc.). Presentation (depending on the age of the public) of the biology and habits of the main wild animals. Presentation of the interactions between species and between species and their environment. Reminder of the role of Man in the ecosystems and evocation of the notion of food chain.
The Flora Trail: Discovery of the different plant species and initiation to the recognition of tree species (by the leaves, by the bark, etc.), use of identification keys... Evocation (depending on the age of the public) of the notion of forest management and highlighting the human factor. The Four Environments (wet, cultivated, forest, hedgerow): Presentation (depending on the age of the public) of the ecosystems and the dynamics of each environment. The Four Seasons: Observation of the environments during 3 or 4 outings to observe the evolution according to the season. The Pond Ecosystem: Discovery of the ecosystem of a pond (birds, fish, amphibians, vegetation, etc.). Explanations, observation and possibly study of samples taken by the children.
Nature outings: Guided thematic outings. On request. In addition to these educational activities on site at Forges, the MNFS also offers guided tours of its preserved pond, located in Marvy, near Neuvy-sur-Loire, with 3 possibilities: Observation of water birds, including some rare birds. Observation of the signs of presence of the beaver. Observation of a complex ecosystem: the reed bed, etc. In general, the Maison de la Nature et de la Faune Sauvage is the ideal place to popularize the notions of biodiversity, ecosystem, food chain, etc. It is a flexible structure, capable of responding to specific educational requests within the framework of the Science and Life of the Earth (S.L.E.) school programs. It has already signed partnership agreements with schools and colleges and primary schools in the Nièvre. The Maison de la Nature et de la Faune Sauvage also offers recreational activities such as target archery and 3D target archery (in collaboration with the association Les Flèches du Morvan) or mixed educational and recreational activities to youth centres and social centres
