The village of Gemeaux has many narrow streets that give the village a labyrinthine appearance. These alleys, also known as trèjes, are narrow passages that lead from the main streets to the upper part of the village. They allowed the inhabitants to flee in case of an invasion. These alleys also allowed access to the vineyards, as Gemeaux was also very famous until the beginning of the 20th century for its Côtes des Violettes. It is even said that this wine was served at the table of the Tsar of Russia.
