Le site des Forges Royales

From 1743 onwards, Pierre Babaud de La Chaussade (1706-1792) set up a major metallurgical company, based in Guérigny. It included about twenty forges in the Nièvre valley, in Bertranges and in Cosne-sur-Loire, specialising in products for the Compagnie des Indes and the Navy, in particular anchors.
In 1755, the Forges de La Chaussade received the title of Royal Forges.
