On the banks of a small river, isolated in a green area 15 km from La Charité, the Moulin de Janlard is being restored. The first version was founded, perhaps in the 12th century, by the monks of the priory of La Charité. The present mill dates from 1850. Its 5m diameter wooden paddle wheel was repaired and put back into service in 2011, the metal gears and the two pairs of millstones have remained intact since the mill stopped in 1928. A 3000m2 "water garden" along the millstream has been created and is home to wild and domestic ducks, which live there in perfect harmony. The barn has been converted into reception rooms. The Janlard Mill takes part in the Journées du Petit Patrimoine et des Moulins (Small Heritage and Mill Days) in June and the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) in September, where guided tours are organised to tell the story of the mill and milling from the time when the wheel and millstones were still in use, but you may prefer to take a walk along the water's edge to enjoy this cool spot. Outside of these periods, visitors are welcome by appointment
