Chitry-les-Mines and Chaumot have the memory of a local child, the writer Jules Renard (1864-1910). A stroll through these two charming villages will allow you to discover his paternal home in Chitry-les-Mines, where the action of "Poil de carotte" and "la Gloriette" is set. These two houses are private and cannot be visited, but can be seen from the road. In the heart of Chitry-les-Mines, the inhabitants have erected a memorial. In the village cemetery, you can see the Renard family grave, shaped like an open book.
