Eglise Saint-Paul de Cray

The parish church of Saint-Paul de Saint-Marcelin-de-Cray is a building from the Romanesque period built in the middle of the 12th century. The decoration of Lombard bands of the bell tower is already a little archaic. The nave of three bays, vaulted in a broken barrel, precedes a lower chancel bay, on which the bell tower has been established, and a vaulted apse in cul-de-four. Gothic murals were discovered during work in 1982 in the apse. They have since been restored. The decoration of false apparatus and flowers, as well as the checkerboard pattern, in addition to the figured characters (the apostles), make one think of an achievement from the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century. This Romanesque church offers a very beautiful architectural unity. It really deserves to deviate from the main axes for a particular visit.
