Chateau de Ray-sur-Saône
Built on a rocky promontory, the castle of Ray-sur-Saône, a building of remarkable architecture, is nestled in the heart of a six-hectare wooded park, a veritable green setting. The site offers an exceptional view of the village of Ray-sur-Saône, a small town of character in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. An emblematic element of the landscape, its powerful silhouette dominates the Saône valley.
Built in the Middle Ages, Ray was a fortress belonging to powerful lords. Largely destroyed by the wars of the 17th century, the castle was rebuilt on the ruins of the old fortress. In the 18th century, it took on the classical appearance that it still has today. The gardens also bear witness to the various landscaping projects that have followed the castle's development. The majestic site has been fully listed as a Historic Monument since 2009.
Since October 2018, the Department of Haute-Saône has been engaged in a major restoration programme. During the works, the castle remains open!
