The castle was originally limited to the large square main building (or keep), flanked by two round towers (one of which houses a spiral staircase). There are some beautiful mullioned and transomed windows and a few gunports. The seigneury of Grandvaux and its castle were the first property owned in the region by the de Noblet family (who came from Chénelette in the Beaujolais region), who would later become the lords of the powerful castle of La Clayette.
