Château de Bussy-la-Pesle
This fortified house is a moving example of interlocking architecture, i.e. several construction periods followed one another and were added together. The castle is a large horseshoe-shaped building around a paved courtyard over a moat which was still wet until 1829.
The main building periods are the Middle Ages (13th century), the late 15th and early Renaissance, and the 19th century.
- The west wing is essentially medieval, but its balcony and windows on the south façade were added in the 18th century and the bell tower was zinc-plated around 1870, as shown in an engraving of the period. This wing contains a 13th century kitchen in a remarkable state of preservation as well as a barrel vault dating from 1430.
The 16th century central building is flanked by an octagonal staircase turret resting on a medieval cellar.
The last part of the castle dates from the 19th century.
