Ancienne piscine
The Ternin is a small river originating in the wooded mountains of the Morvan (born of the Lac de Chamboux and the Ruisseau de Conforgien, on the boundary between the communes of Saint-Martin de la Mer and Alligny en Morvan, i.e. on the boundary between the departments of Côte-d'Or and Nièvre, at an altitude of 480 m), and its basin, like its course, extends into the departments of Côte-d'Or, Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire. It generally flows in a southerly direction, taking in the waters of numerous, very abundant streams before reaching the plains. It flows into the Arroux after a 48-kilometre journey, at Autun.
The Ternin (called "Torondam" in the Middle Ages, Tavernay in 1659, this river was also called the Tarenne, the Terrene, the Taraine. Lai Taraigne in Bourguignon-morvandiau) is the largest tributary of the Arroux (120 kilometres long and a tributary of the Loire, the longest river in France). into which it empties. When we were kids, we used to go swimming here in the summer in what we shamelessly called "the swimming pool".
