The crypt of the church, under the double vocation of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, conceals a masterpiece that is often overlooked: a set of wall paintings from the early 14th century. This jewel of the Middle Ages was rediscovered during the construction of a new apse of the church in the 19th century and was listed as a historical monument in 1985. The crypt is located under the front choir of the church. It is accessed by a small staircase. The decoration accompanies the visitor as well as the worshipper in his progress from darkness to light.
There are three levels of simple decoration that make up a procession. The abundance of figures carrying candles reminds us that this dark and underground place is dedicated to the light. Two scenes are dedicated to the crucifixion (east wall) and to Christ triumphant, victorious over death. In order to preserve the frescoes, you are asked not to stay longer than 10 minutes.
