The Romanesque church of Sancé belonged to the domain of the Lyon abbey of Saint-Martin d'Ainay. It contains a Gothic chapel and its altarpiece dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto, a real treasure of 16th century religious art. We owe it to Jacques Mareschal, Lord of Sancé, who had the chapel built for his burial. He would have been a member of the order of the knights of Notre-Dame de Lorette, in charge of the protection of the sanctuary of Lorette, home of the Virgin Mary. Restored to its original state a few decades ago by Patrick Pinard and Bertrand Lotteau, the wooden and gold masterpiece has since been enthroned on the north wall of the church.
