In the hamlet of Donzy-le-Pré, two religious buildings are located barely a hundred metres away. The abbey of Notre Dame du Pré, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, is known for its tympanum, a masterpiece of Romanesque art. The tympanum represents the Virgin in majesty with the baby Jesus, the prophet Isaiah and a thurifer angel. Today you can admire the tympanum and the front nave with its beautiful capitals.
A little further on is the church of Saint Martin, which was built at the same time as the abbey. The church has many tombstones including that of Françoise de la Rivière, lady-in-waiting of Queen Margaux, who died in 1606. Access to the ruins of the abbey is free. The church of Saint Martin is managed by the association of safeguard for Donzy-le-Pré.
