This building was constructed between the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 13th century to replace a primitive church (dedicated to Saint John the Baptist). The church is located in the grounds of a former castle, the seat of an agricultural and seigniorial estate or deanery that belonged to the Abbey of Cluny. In the 19th century, it was deemed too small and was abandoned in favour of a new church, opened for worship in 1870. Sold, it was used as a wine warehouse and parish hall before being abandoned. It was saved from ruin and destruction by the Friends of the Dardon, a local learned society that acquired the building in 1969 and undertook its restoration. Exhibitions are organised in July and August.
