The trio of confectioners JACOB, BERTHIGNY and BELLANGER, located on Avenue de Paris in Pougues les Eaux, created this delicious sweet, which was later named Pougatine. Composed of a praline and almond filling, as well as a cocoa paste coated with a coffee glaze, the sweet became very popular with people taking the waters in the spa town of Pougues les Eaux, as well as travellers on the famous Nationale 7 motorway.
In 1905, the trademark and manufacturing patent for Pougatine were registered, further cementing the reputation of this exquisitely flavoured sweet.
However, after years of light and history through this little sweet, the line of creators found themselves faced with a major problem: the children had chosen a different path to that of confectionery, and so La Pougatine found itself in serious jeopardy. As a result, La Pougatine disappeared for several years when the last generation to make it retired.
Stéphane MIENS, a great friend of the family of creators and, above all, a lover of his native region, began to think about how to revive this sweet.
After long discussions with the owner of the patent, she decided to sell it to him in order to revive La Pougatine, the confectionery she loved so much. Stéphane therefore decided to take up the challenge of reviving, promoting and developing La Pougatine nationally and, why not, internationally.
To do this, he surrounded himself with his good friend Patrick BENCHETRIT and the two of them set off on the confectionery road with the ambition of making this Pougatine jewel known in the fine establishments of the capital, Monaco and even further afield...
