A perfect harmony between the colours of the works and those of the autumn landscapes.
Formerly the studio of the sculptor Pierre Merlier, this museum on the banks of the Canal du Nivernais contains the abundant sculpted and painted work of an inspired and singular artist, which reflects a fantastic modernity.
Theatrical staging of over 300 wood sculptures. "Oak, lime, elm, cherry, exotic species, the figures emerge ironic as the family of "bankers" among which we note some women but also dreamlike, chimerical, as the orantes, women draped in veils. Each time, it's a question of respecting what the tree has to offer, playing with the form, inventing it with derision and poetry. The stumps and their roots become heads, reaching for the sky, while the body caught in the trunk of the tree seems to anchor itself delicately in the ground, long feet, as long as the hands are slender and the necks are elongated, heads resting on top, faces in a game of truth".
Surprise and emotion are guaranteed, provoked by the quantity, the diversity, the themes tackled, the materials used, the staging of a unique and singular work. The buildings and the proximity of the Canal du Nivernais, bordered by the towpath, make this museum a unique and attractive place to visit.
