The Château de Lys priory in the heart of Chissey-les-Mâcon is home to a museum unlike any other. Created by Richard Alix, a former swimming pool manager with a passion for his job, the museum traces the history of swimming in the sea, river or pool and the development of swimming as a sport. On display: photos of champions, posters of sporting events, medals, paintings, postcards, a woman's swimming costume dating from 1860 and two exceptional models representing a 19th-century bathing establishment and the first French swimming pool in Paris, built in 1884. The collections are enriched every year thanks to Richard Alix's research and donations. Lys doesn't have a large lake or access to the sea, but the museum offers a beautiful view of the sea in the heart of the Mâcon countryside.
