Le Chemin Carriès

The tour starts from the Place de la Liberté (Tourist Office).

(D/A) Follow the Avenue de la Gare lined with plane trees. When you reach the fire station, turn right and walk along a small pond along the Chemin du Tacot. Join the Route de Cosne on the western outskirts of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye.

(1) Cross this road with care. Immediately take the left-hand path, then immediately turn right. Shortly after joining the Route de Donzy, turn left.

(2) When you reach an electricity pylon, turn right and follow the path through the woods. Just before the garage, turn left onto the D955.

(3) Turn left, keeping to the left-hand shoulder. At the first crossroads, turn left into the hamlet of Les Mottes. Turn right at the crossroads. Drive alongside the old Mottes pottery with its chimney on your left.

(4) At the junction with the D955, cross carefully, turn left and then immediately right towards Argenoux. Drive through this hamlet, keeping to the main road. Cross the bridge over the River Vrille and turn left onto the first track. Follow the road past a lovely pond, then turn right.

(5) Carefully cross the D957 and take the Chemin de la Chapelle towards Le Biron Blanc.

(6) At the crossroads with side tracks, take the right-hand track and walk down it, which is framed by hedges. The path widens and leads to Les Lamberts.

(7) Continue straight ahead along the tarmac lane, leaving the right and left footpaths behind. After approximately 200m, the track ends in a sunken lane lined with hedges and trees.

(8) Cross the road and take the track opposite to reach a new road, which you should cross slightly to the left and right. Continue along the track. At the Carrefour des Potiers (artists' works), go straight ahead. Cross a tarmac road and pass a hut containing compilations of press cuttings.
Cross the Ruisseau de la Maladrerie (old wash-house on the left).

(9) Cross the D2 with care and head into the Rue Creuse almost opposite. Turn into the first street on the left (Rue des Anseuses). At the intersection with Faubourg des Potiers, turn right.
At the main crossroads (Carrefour Carriès), cross carefully to join the Grande Rue. Cross the first branch of the river and then the Vrille to get back to the starting point (D/A).
