Between Levis and Fontenoy: the battle sites

Departure is from the Levis church car park.

(D/A) Walk past the church porch and down the few steps (be careful, some of them are a bit rickety) onto a narrow path on your left. At the edge of the wood, take the undergrowth path on the left.

(1) When you reach the road, turn right downhill through the hamlet of "Le Chênoy". At the crossroads of the T-shaped roads, go straight ahead onto the dirt track.

(2) Go down this track, then turn left just after crossing the river (by fording or on the small bridge). Walk for 150m and turn right. At the road, turn right for 50m, then left onto the path. Pass the remains of looted sculptures on the right.

(3) At the crossroads with the D3, turn right and then left at the obelisk. Continue straight ahead on this dirt track until you reach Fontenoy.

(4) Turn left into Rue Principale as far as the war memorial.

(5) Leave this street to take the left-hand path (between the monument and the impasse du Monument) and continue, turning right at the next intersection of 3 T-shaped paths.

(6) Cross the road, continue along the track and turn left onto the tarmac lane at the junction.

(7) Return to the Château-Musée du Tremblay by taking the tarmac lane on the left.

(8) Make a U-turn.

(7) Go straight on, then turn left after about 150m. This path runs alongside woods and crosses fields. Just before crossing a road, a few metres after an electricity pole, turn right onto the path that leads through a small wood and ends at the hamlet of Les Ysserts. Cross the road and go straight ahead. The tarmac road you have just taken takes you to Les Dubourgs. Keep to this road until you reach the next junction with the D3.

(9) At this crossroads, turn left (watch out for traffic), walk 100m and take the right-hand path. After crossing the Ru de Fontenoy, continue for 250m and turn right. Continue along this road and, at the sharp bend, take the left-hand path to reach the hamlet of Champignaux. Leave the path leading off to the right.

(10) When you reach the first houses, just after the pond on your left, turn left onto the lane that runs between 2 houses, pass a second pond on the right to reach a small road and the hamlet of Michaux (another pond on the left). Turn left, walk for about 100m and turn into the first road on the right.

(11) When this road bends 90° to the left, take the track opposite and continue as far as the village of Talbruns, keeping to the main track which ends in a tarmac road.
At the crossroads, take the road on the left, then the first on the left to reach the starting point (D/A).
