From the cobbled streets of Toucy to the trognes of the Bois des Quatre Francs

Departure and return car parks in the centre of Toucy, Place des Frères Genêt.

(D/A) Join Rue Émile Genêt, cross this street at the pharmacy and turn right up this street. Before the large curve in Rue Paul Bert, turn left into Rue du Miton. At the end, turn left into Rue Lucile Cormier.
Follow the road past the town hall, then a pharmacy, until you reach Rue Paul Defrance. Cross the road and take Rue des Montagnes (towards Lycée Pierre Larousse).

(1) At the crow's feet, leave the car park and the road on your right and continue uphill. Pass in front of the lycée and stay on this road until you reach the junction with Avenue de Kusel.

(2) Cross this avenue and find a small lane between two houses called Chemin d'Arthé. Continue along this road, which soon becomes a sunken lane. You will come across a few side tracks and field entrances, but you will soon pass them. Go straight ahead at the crossroads of four tracks.

(3) At the road, bear left for around 100 metres. Enter the lane on the right. A long line of pollarded trees (also known as trognes, écornues...) will guide you to the Maurepas ford. After crossing the ford, head back up along the fields. In the middle of the hill, leave the path on the right.

(4) At the château on the right, take the road on the left. At Maurepas, go straight on to join the D955.

(5) Cross the road with care and take a small track. It quickly splits into 2 branches. Keep to the left. Continue along this track, which is better marked and wider than the side exits.

(6) Cross the road to the hamlet of Maumont and go straight down to the right onto a wooded track. At the next crossroads, turn left. Shortly after crossing the Ru de Maurepas (which is much larger than on the first crossing), turn right onto the track. Leave the farm buildings on your right and continue in a straight line.

(7) Bend left (the path is not shown on the IGN map). Still a sunken track, it comes to a crossroads. Turn right, skirting the fields in places.

(8) When you reach a wider track flanked by a road marker, turn left. This path is busier.

(9) At the end of the farm shed, turn left in a hairpin bend and follow the shaded fields on the right and some wooded moorland.

(10) Go straight ahead at this crossroads. Continue south-eastwards. At the crossroads with the road serving La Roche, continue downhill on the tarmac road.

(11) Continue straight ahead. You will come to a crossroads opposite the farm machinery buildings. Turn right into the avenue of plane trees.

(12) Go through the California facilities on either side (explanations § to be seen). Drive along the food shop and petrol station on your right. At the end, turn left into Rue de la Chatterie. Leave the Rue des 6 Deniers.

(13) Carefully cross Avenue Aristide Briand and go up the street opposite. At the road marker, turn right. In front of the church tower, turn right up the lane around the church. At the entrance stairs to the building, turn right again down the street. At the end, turn right into a small square. Walk through the gap in the old ramparts and down the flight of steps that, after offering a fine view of the Place Pierre Larousse, lead to this space and the statue of the local hero. Walk for a while along Rue Paul Bert and take the lane on the right to get back to the starting point (D/A).
