WHAT TO DO DURING YOUR STAY?
During your stay, you can relax at the Tour du Château if you need to, and do nothing if you wish.
Otherwise, there are many attractions in the region, and there is no shortage of things to see and do.
Visit of castles (Cormatin, Pierreclos, Berzé-le-Chatel, Saint-Point), 3D visit of the mythical abbey of Cluny and the beautiful typical Romanesque churches which depended on it (tour), discovery of the Grand Site of Solutré and Vergisson and its extraordinary mineral panorama, visit of its underground museum of prehistory
Romantic lovers will follow in the footsteps of Lamartine who lived here and left his mark in Milly-Lamartine, Saint-Point, Mâcon and Pierreclos.
Horse lovers will find themselves in a land of horse riding and horse shows, both in Cluny and in Chaintré.
Cycling enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice, with more than 280 km of signposted green or blue routes (along the Saône), offering attractive, safe routes for cyclists of all levels, beginners or experienced. The greenway also lends itself to hiking or jogging. The region is also covered by numerous signposted walking routes.
River tourism is also pleasant: from the water sports bases on the Saône, you can go for a few hours or a day on the water.
There are many lakes for bathing and water sports, the Crêches-Sur-Saône leisure centre is 5 minutes away, the Cormoranche-sur-Saône lake is 15 minutes away and the Saint-Point lake is 30 minutes away.
Gastronomy is a major asset of the region, with labelled products from an exceptional region, Bresse poultry, cream, beef from the Charolais, and of course goat cheese from the Mâconnais....perhaps the best in the world? The charming market of Cluny on Saturday morning combines heritage and gastronomy. You can take advantage of this to discover Romanesque houses, antique shops, art galleries and exhibitions.
You may also be interested in wine tourism, discovering the local grands crus, Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, and Beaujolais wines just around the corner. The Solutré atrium offers an introduction to the terroir of Pouilly-Fuissé.
Around Chaintré, there are many convivial quality inns with very reasonable daily menus, and within a radius of 15 kilometres several gastronomic restaurants distinguished by the guides (1 macaroon and 2 macaroons in the Michelin guide), will delight you. A starred restaurant on the spot " La table de Chaintré ", and an inn in the village with daily specials.
Don't forget to visit the workshops of the many craftsmen (potters, jewellers, designers, artists) who have chosen to live in this beautiful and peaceful region for a very long time.
