Film by Adrien Bellay
Low-tech is a concrete ecological approach that involves designing and disseminating simple, sustainable techniques and know-how that are accessible to all.
Low-Tech takes us into the daily lives of the men and women who are fighting to democratise this approach.
The forerunners of this movement, whether they be activists, farmers, engineers or entrepreneurs, are in search of a more sober way of life and are seeking to inject positive momentum into all areas of social life. In agriculture, housing, energy, education and the economy, low-tech is inspiring. From the local to the global, we look at how these committed citizens are making their dreams come true. In the world of repair cafés, organic farming, alternative housing and top engineering schools, the approach is spreading, with tools within everyone's reach.
By expressing their creativity and freeing themselves from norms, whether by repairing everyday machines, supplying themselves with energy or building their own means of production, they hope to bring about a change in society. Democratising low-tech also means promoting energy efficiency, the circular economy and the free circulation of knowledge.
Low-Tech questions our role as citizens in a world that is coming up against the limits of growth. How can we reconcile our principles with our concrete everyday practices? With enthusiasm, the film attempts to answer this question and follows these men and women who have decided to change their ways and who have made a choice: to turn their backs on the techno-utopian promises they consider doomed and to imagine desirable futures based on ecological techniques. Could these pioneers of the next world have found a remedy for the dangers that threaten us all?
