Marché aux bovins
1st auction market in France by the number of animals presented in 2010. Eco Mayor Prize in 2009.
Saint-Christophe-en-Brionnais, located in the heart of the Brionnais bocage, is particularly lively on Wednesdays, the day of its Charolais cattle market. Come and discover all year round, in an exceptional setting, this unusual "show" which harmoniously combines the past, the present and the future!
This historic market has long enjoyed a reputation that extends far beyond the borders of the Saône-et-Loire. This is even more true with the completion in mid-2009 of its clock market: an example of the integration of new energies with almost a hectare of solar roofing and rainwater recovery tanks.
Transactions at the auction market (young cattle, grazers, "lean" animals) start at 7am (ending at 12.45pm depending on the number of cattle) and continue until mid-afternoon (depending on the number of cattle).
For the traditional over-the-counter market (so-called "fat" animals), transactions start at 12 noon and end around 1pm.
Guided tours to "Experience and understand our market" from 9am to 3pm (other times and days on request). To fully enjoy this experience, it is best to visit between 8.45 and 10 am or around 1 pm to ensure the presence of animals.
Duration: approximately 1 hour.
Reservations recommended, especially for groups.
Tourist documents are available at the tourist information point. The restaurant owners offer their market menu with a choice of stew, calf's head, entrecote or beef steak.
