As Burgundy's cultural, gastronomic and wine-growing heritage comes increasingly to the fore, those involved in the wine industry have embarked on a process aimed at giving wine a new dimension. As a result, a pioneering wine tourism model is emerging as the origin of a new vision, deeply rooted in the very essence of the terroir. These initiatives led to a revival of Burgundy wines on the international scene, illustrated by the birth of emblematic events such as the Paulée de Meursault in 1923, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1934 and the Saint-Vincent Tournante in 1938. Similarly, the creation of France's first wine tourism route, the Route des Grands Crus, in 1937, helped boost the region's appeal to wine lovers.
There was also a drive to raise the profile of the region at national level, with the introduction of the first appellations d'origine, the founding of the Office International de la Vigne et du Vin, the creation of gastronomic clubs, the recognition of the first stars in the Michelin Guide and the emergence of specialist magazines such as the Revue des Vins de France.
This new exhibition is the fruit of a partnership between the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and the UNESCO Chair in Wine Cultures and Traditions, and is supported by the Côte-d'Or Department.
The exhibition is curated by Olivier Jacquet, Doctor of History and head of the UNESCO Chair in Wine Cultures and Traditions at the University of Burgundy, and can be viewed in the monks' dormitory from April 2024 to April 2025.
Access to the exhibition is included in the ticket price.
