Finish off the summer by taking part in Act IV of Cluny, the great History show!
This fourth act of the touring show will once again bring together professional actors, amateurs and singers, using historic sites in the town and the Abbey to immerse you in the great march of Cluniac history.
After the success of "L'Apiculture de la Foi" in 2021, "Quand les papes tonnent, l'abbé moissonne" in 2022 and "L'or et l'art et l'auréolé" in 2023, here comes Act IV!
THE APOGEE OF THE BEGINNING OF THE END
Let's be clear: the final episode in our series of shows on the history of Cluny Abbey bears a title that smacks of the end, but it shouldn't leave the audience wanting more.
This final instalment recounts the Homeric labours of Peter the Venerable, the last great abbot of Cluny, namely his attempt to save the unity of a crumbling Cluniac order, his attempt to save the finances burdened by the construction of the largest church in Christendom, his attempt to reform monastic discipline and return to the original rules, his attempt to combat the influence of the fanatical Bernard de Clairvaux and his Cistercian order, his attempt to put an end to the quarrel between the black monks and the white monks, his attempt to refute the Koran and the Talmud and to enslave the Jews, and his attempt to save Peter Abelard from the stake and help Heloise from the blows of Bernard de Clairvaux, an inquisitor before his time.
This copious menu is served up, as in previous years, by a reinforced team of some twenty actors, singers and technicians, both professional and amateur, using the same formula: an inscription of the facts treated with acknowledged historical veracity in an epico-burlesque form that combines songs, masks and puppets in three venues.
