The cantata holds a special place in the history of French music. An elaborate musical form, it is nevertheless the invention of a poet, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau. This unequal and controversial author left his mark on the musical world of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by adapting to the French language a genre that was already widespread in Italy, both in the secular and religious spheres. It is around this representative genre of the French Baroque that we are proposing a major event at the Château de Bussy-Rabutin in 2024. The Château de Bussy-Rabutin was the first place to fully support the creation of the Esperluette & Cie ensemble, and it was very important to the ensemble to offer a project that would plunge spectators into Baroque art with a total spectacle!
The programme will be unique to the Château de Bussy-Rabutin. It will be the fruit of musicological research linked to the allegories and mythological figures in the castle: statues, paintings, etc. The different areas of the castle will be used to offer the audience an enchanted walk, a mythological journey, but always with music!
