The theme of this event, which combines art and nature, is butterflies!
Particularly linked to the myth of Psyche, goddess of the soul since Antiquity, the butterfly has regularly found its place in art over the centuries. The symbolism associated with it is certainly strong, but it is above all its intrinsic beauty and the ease with which artists can incorporate it into their décor to give it life and colour that make it indispensable. This is particularly true of Nevers earthenware, where the butterfly has been a fixture throughout the ages, whether at the heart of the scene depicted or at the edge, when it spreads its wings to embellish the embroidery, lambrequins and rocailles with its colourful touches.
A highly symbolic decorative element on a plate, the butterfly is the starting point for a discovery of large-fired and small-fired earthenware, first offered by the Musée de la Loire. The Environmental Education Department will then take you on a walk in search of these pretty, colourful insects.
