A real-life medieval worksite

In Guédelon in La Puisaye (Yonne), you'll feel like you've arrived in the Middle Ages... But in fact the castle is actually quite recent!

This unbelievable project began in 1997. The plan was to build a medieval castle, using the building techniques of the 13th century. The goal was to try out these techniques and gain a better understanding of them.

Since then, stonemasons, builders, woodcutters and blacksmiths have been working together. All of this, under the watchful eyes of the 300,000 visitors who come here each year! This huge project should be finished by 2025.

The treasures of La Puisaye: arts and crafts

Stone, ochre, clay... La Puisaye is heaven-on-earth for arts and crafts professionals. As such, many of them have decided to set up shop here: potters and ceramists, ochre workers, sculptors, etc. There are so many workshops here, all of which will be delighted to open their doors to you, in the villages, down narrow streets, in the châteaus... Don't hesitate to stop off and pay them a visit to learn something new about these trades.
