"I was a landscape gardener, then a carpenter and I fell on a steel bone ...
The carpenter's trade gave me a taste for manual work as well as for woodwork.
I bought an anvil by chance on a flea market, then a forge, and that's when the vise tightened...
I decided to follow a training course at Vinh Lê caoh (Forge of character) in order to review the basics, to acquire a working method, a technique. I then practised for several years in order to improve my skills.
Out of curiosity I discovered the work of other blacksmiths such as Brian Brazeal, Alec Steele, Marck Aspery, Brent Bailley, who practice the Anglo-Saxon technique.
Thanks to my background and experience, I can now respond to various requests (creation and installation of decorative or non-decorative metal elements, the forging of a knife, an axe or a hammer). I also make hand-sewn leather cases.
I offer forging courses, mainly in cutlery, in my workshop in Burgundy. - Emmanuel Strattmann
