The Climats of Burgundy

The "Climats" of Burgundy have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage since 2015, in recognition of their outstanding universal value. These parcels of vineyard result from a mix of ancestral expertise and a unique terroir benefiting from exceptional climatic conditions that contribute to the production of the excellent wines.
As Bernard Pivot used to say: "In Burgundy, when people talk about a Climat, they don't look up at the sky but down at the ground. »

At the heart of the world of wine

Grape varieties, Climats, appellations, vinification methods... For the non-initiated, wine may seem a complex affair and that's before you even begin tasting it! Full, fat, mineral, floral, tannic... but don't panic, you'll soon know all there is to know about the vines and wines of Burgundy, thanks to our wine centre, the Cité des Climats & Vins de Bourgogne.

Mâcon site

In Mâcon, vines have been grown since Roman times and winegrowing practices took off thanks to the powerful abbeys of Cluny and Tournus. The Cité des Climats & Vins de Bourgogne stands proudly on the banks of the river Saône, shaped like a giant winepress screw.

You'll love the exhibition tour, the heritage investigation to conduct with your family, the guided tour, the excavation activities and, last but not least, the plant tincture section.

Chablis site

In the heart of the vineyard, the world-famous Chablis is an international icon among wine enthusiasts. Wine is the main activity and the flagship product of this typical winegrowing village, an obvious choice for the Cité des Climats & Vins de Bourgogne in the department of Yonne. The Cité will occupy the charming Cellier du Petit Pontigny site in the heart of the village.

The programme includes unguided and guided tours as well as various activities for the children or for the whole family to enjoy together.
