Site Archéologique de Compierre

The Gallo-Roman Site of Compierre is nestled in the forest between Saint-Révérien and Champallement. You will visit the ruins of a town that disappeared at the end of the 4th century AD: ruins of a theatre, the Butcher's House, a curious octagonal temple, a group of craft shops on the edge of the Forum located along an important Roman road linking Autun to Entrains-sur-Nohain and then Auxerre.
The collections found during the excavations (domestic objects, tools and sculptures) are exhibited at the Romain Rolland Museum of Art and History in Clamecy.

The location of this site in the forest adds to the interest of the visit the pleasure of a walk under the shade.
The visit is free all year round (documents available at the Tourist Office).

The association of the Friends of Compierre aims to preserve, maintain and present the Gallo-Roman village of Compierre to the public. It organises guided tours on request (03.86.29.63.32)

Various cultural events are organised on the site, bringing the village to life for a few days.
