Château-Fort des Comtes d'Auxerre et de Nevers

Prototype of a series of castles built at the end of the reign of Philippe Auguste, this construction with a square plan, without keep, had its lordly dwelling leaning against the southern curtain wall and included magnificent rooms with a decoration of openings and juxtaposed Romanesque arcatures (the Romanesque gallery still opens today on the valley). Its imposing remains dominate the lower town built around the sources of the Druyes; of the castle, the walls and the surrounding towers remain as well as the imposing postern which defended the main entrance (on three levels, including the terrace accessible during the visit)
The importance of these remains and their location at the top of a rocky outcrop give the whole an impressive majesty and power
Not to be missed, in the lower town, the beautiful Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Romain and the listed lime tree, the wash house, the house where Jean-Roch Coignet was born, the author of the famous Cahiers du capitaine Coignet and that of the engineer Jean Bertin, the father of the aerotrain.
