The history of Arnay le Duc goes back to the time of the Gauls, it was an advanced fortified military post, a day's walk from Augustodunum (Autun), then a fortified town in the Middle Ages, an industrial town in the 19th century, ... Arnay le Duc has lived through the centuries and has kept visible traces of this in its town centre
